Monoova CEO Bianca Bates has outlined the company’s next phase of growth in an exclusive interview with PayDay News, highlighting opportunities across new industries, the value of simpler access to multiple payment rails and the need for greater certainty on the New Payments Platform roadmap.

Speaking four months into the role, Bates said the industry needs greater clarity on the future of account-to-account payments.

“The biggest thing we need is clarity and certainty, and we need it sooner than later,” she told PayDay News.

Growth through simpler payment infrastructure

Bates described a growth strategy spanning education, lending, insurance, payroll, superannuation, property and government agencies. The focus is on helping businesses collect, move and reconcile money more simply across payment methods including the NPP, Direct Debit, BPAY, cards, foreign exchange and cross-border payments.

The strategy builds on Monoova’s existing real-time payment, automation and reconciliation capabilities, with multiple payment methods accessible through a single API or online portal.

Monoova for Platforms is one area supporting this growth, enabling software platforms and marketplaces to integrate payment collection, reconciliation and payouts into their existing customer experience.

A call for NPP roadmap certainty

Bates called for faster progress and a clearer timetable for the NPP roadmap, noting that businesses need confidence about how Australia’s account-to-account infrastructure will develop and which customer needs it will address.

The interview also linked growing interest in account-to-account payments with changes to card surcharging. Bates said Monoova is seeing more businesses open discussions about real-time payment options, strengthening the case for clearer industry direction.

Investing in growth

Supporting this growth is continued investment across risk, compliance, technology, systems and people. Bates said strong controls remain fundamental to Monoova’s operating model as the business scales.

Building for more industries and payment use cases

Monoova is expanding its commercial, risk and compliance, product and technology capacity as it develops clearer payment solutions for new sectors. The company is also considering partnerships, internal development and acquisitions where they can close capability gaps and support its growth strategy.
